Principal
Bernadette White
I am Bernadette White and this is my second year at LEISD serving as the Principal at Oak Point Elementary. This is my 13th year in education and my 4th year as an administrator. I've worked at San Antonio ISD, Round Rock ISD, Katy ISD, Denton ISD, and now Little Elm ISD. My career started off in a bilingual Pre-K classroom in San Antonio ISD where I was a Teaching Assistant. I loved it so much that I decided to pursue my first Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language through the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio!
Prior to that, I received my B.A. in English and Linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin. My heart has always been in elementary education and ten years later, I decided to pursue a second Masters degree in Educational Leadership at Dallas Baptist University where I received my administration certification. I enjoy administration and supporting teachers and students so much that I continued my education. I am now going into my third year as a doctoral student in Educational Leadership at Dallas Baptist University. My dissertation topic is "Effective Two-Way Dual-Language Program Qualities in Texas Elementary School with High-Stakes Testing."
I am a dual-language advocate. I grew up in a rural, not-so-small town anymore, south of Austin. My parents' first language is Spanish, and we carry a proud Hispanic heritage dating back to the 1600s in Texas! I am the first generation in my family to have English as my first language.
When I am not studying and working on my research, I love to travel and see family! I've been married for 10 years to my husband Robert. I have two wonderful kids who attend Oak Point Elementary and my adorable lab mix Sadie who is six this year. Between my kids' soccer, gymnastics, and baseball, I love to read, do archery, and geek out on Ham radios with my dad! I'm a black belt in Kuk Sool Won and played the trumpet in the marching band when I was in high school where I had the honor of performing at Pearl Harbor for veterans when I was 18. I love serving my community and getting to know new people. I can't think of anything else I'd rather do than help kids recognize their potential so they can impact their community!
